First of all, special thanks to my lovable Husband for this birthday-cum-shopping trip planned last minute. Initial plan was to decide between Osaka or Bali but in 2014, we made a trip to Bali and in 2015, we went to Tokyo for my birthday. So, I wasn't really keen on choosing on either one of the destination therefore we figured that we needed a quick getaway instead, somewhere less tourist-infested(obviously not possible) and can satisfy our shopping needs since the last trip we had a proper retail therapy was since December 2013 at Oxford Street Primark, London!
Therefore, Bangkok was decided on impulse! He booked the trip less than 6 days before the flight. Bangkok was the first trip of 2013 (around Feb/March)I went with my Bubs together with a Friend of mine. Back then both of us were just at our initial stage of courtship(or was it platonic?hahah), it was definitely weird at first. Haha! Hoping to relive old memories back in BKK!
09 January 2016
My dearest Husband just had to drag me (like literally)out of bed at 0820 and to the toilet to get ready.
We only made our way to the airport by bike an hour later.
Checked in and had a heavy brunch at Coffee & Toast, praying that it will last us till evening. Made our way to the gate and off we go!
Touchdown at DMK at about 2plus in the afternoon. Too a cab to Phetchburi to our condo. Yes, CONDO! Hehe bila lagi Kan boleh stay in a condo? The ride took about 20 minutes from the airport. Checked in and we rest-ed for awhile before heading out again.
First Thai Iced milk tea since touchdown!
We took the boat ride by the river to MBK for the very first time! Anything to beat the traffic! Anyway, the boat ride was super cheap that Bubs didn't had any small change with him and we "kinda" got the ride for free. What a bargain! But obviously it didn't felt right, the person doesn't even want to accept our big notes. sigh
Walked around MBK and did minor shopping. Ate at the foodcourt at level 7 of Tokyu, I had the feel for Japanese food!
Did I mentioned that I had like 4 servings of Thai Iced Milk tea for that day? Damn chronic but Super shiok I tell you.
Once done, we walked to Pratunam for the night market. Bubs and his jerseys, ya'know.. MEN.
We pretty much walked until both were tired. Had my first tuktuk ride back to the hotel. Who said it was expensive!? Bubs knew his way to bargain for the trip back so, I was relieved lah.
Completely knocked out right after, till the next day.
10 January 2016
Ahh, who doesn't like to be smothered with kisses in the morning? I love it, gotta be the best way to be awaken by your partner. As I opened my eyes, was greeted by Bubs wishing me a happy birthday. Oh my god, old bird already.
Dear time, you can slow down right now. I wanna be forever young. Forever 22!
Posting on IG "..being married was the best present I'd received on my birthday" so damn cliche and cringing please. Obviously I did not, later he say I attention-seeking! Hahaha
So we both got ready for the Chatuchak Market on a very hot but beautiful Sunday morning. Took the free tuktuk shuttle of the condo to BTS Nana(it's like their MRT) and bought the rabbit card. Super cute!
Made our way to Mocit station for Chatuchak! I've gotta say I'm impress with their transport. I mean, all along I thought getting around BKK(safest) is by their taxi/tuktuk but I was wronged. Their train is amazing! Super cooling and very clean!
Anyway, Chatuchak(or some called it the JJ Market) was infested with too many tourist, like literally(nothing's new for a tourists "attraction" no?
Had a few rounds for about less than 2 hours until I felt Super annoyed with the crowd(not forgetting groggy and sleepy, worst combo ever) and we went off to grab lunch at Siam area.
Went to Paragon for subway and continued the endless walking and exploring. Bought a few delicacies back to house too!
Pokemon world at Siam Paragon. You have no idea how loud I squealed when I saw this giant pikachu!!!
Was too sleepy that we spend the afternoon napping for an hour and woke up for the Ratchada Night Market!
We got lost for awhile then decided to take a tuktuk at the end.
When your walking GPS(=Bubs) failed on you, you take a decent photo of where you were lost at. Hahaha
Hands down, best place ever to shop! I mean in BKK. It's like Chatuchak and Pratunam combined, still cannot be on par with Ratchada's! Super hip and cool place for youngsters. Even better, you rarely see any tourist. This place is like a gem to the locals!
So many bars with live band, food spread and etc! Contented with the items I got for myself, not bad at all.
Shopped too much and we realised that we've not ate dinner. Settled for street snacks like spicy chicken drums and delicious meatballs/sausage!
Called it a day and head back. Bubs just gotta annoy me when I said I wanted a cake: He bought a slice, sang me a birthday song and cut the cake HIMSELF. HAHHAHA wtpark, really. So, birthday siapa ni sekarang?
Anyway, the chocolate fudge cake was really damn good! Yumz
And so, we slept right after.
On to the next day.
11 January 2016
Woke up at about 0900 and got ready by 1000. Had leftover subway sandwich yesterday which we intended to eat for dinner but was too tired. Reheated the sandwich(and the sausage too but it got burnt. The smoke was so suffocating, you have no idea how much it made us cough our lungs out. Ze hubs said that I intentionally want to choke him. Oh c'mon!) and brought along for our journey to Hua Hin.
Took the train to BTS Victory Monument for the transport to Hua Hin. Paid a one-way ticket at about 280 Baht. We were the last two passenger to board the van and squeezed our way to the back, seated beside a French couple. Journey took about 2hours and 30minutes(or maybe more?) We had so many pitstops cos' our driver had to drop off a few parcels and picking up people along the way as well.
Wanted to stop at Cha-Am but hubs insisted on heading towards Hua Hin first. As we alighted Hua Hin, headed straight to the nearby Starbucks to figure our day-plan, besides it was scorching hot. The sun spared us no mercy(we might have got a little more tanner than before) thus, forgo the beach visit. We reached Hua Hin at about 2pm which only left us with 3 hours of sight-visit. There were two places that I wanted to visit, The Santorini Park & Swiss Sheep but we headed for The Venetian first(which is in Hua Hin) then The Santorini Park. Had to forgo the Swiss Sheep due to time constraint.
These attractions are literally by the side of their "expressway" and it's tough to get a cab from there unless you negotiate with the driver to wait for you and make a two-way trip. Of which, we did but price offered was at 1200 Baht. I wanted to pull Bubs away cos' it's ridiculous for a transport price but they finally sealed the deal at 900 baht for a:
(Hua Hin City Centre - The Venetian(1hr wait) - The Santorini Park(1hr wait) - Cha Am)
Okay lah good deal, thus we went ahead with the tuktuk. First stop, The Venetian.
Initially this place wasn't on the itinerary but the attraction caught my eyes and really wanted to check out the place. It was close to empty! We kind of had the place to ourselves. Bought one day ticket each.
First up, the 3D art gallery!
Sparing in mind that we have less than an hour to check out the place, the 3D gallery was like an amazing race. Took as much photo and fastest as we could!
Didn't even realised that we had only 20 minutes left to check out the place. Brushed aside pit stops that was not worth visiting. The mini Italy was worth it! Amazed that they had The Trevi fountain there! At least I got a shot since we didn't managed to capture it at the real place due to construction back in 2014!
We went to The mini farm next! I was psyched that even though we didn't managed to go to The Swiss Sheep, this place has a glimpse of it.
They had a lot of uninterested sheep, lambs and horses in their farms.
The smell was too empowering thus making our way to the next pitstop; The Musical (something...?)
Made our way back to the tuktuk and head to the next destination; The Santorini Park.
Honestly, I have no idea what's the hype about. It's just a picturesque place with mini cafe and amusement park(okay, it's just a Ferris wheel and some indoor pool for kids or something.) The Santorini water fantasy is worth visiting though but we skipped it cos' it was too hot for "fun under the sun", could literally see myself three tone darker than my usual tan.
We took about less than an hour and finally calling off the day at the outskirts of Bangkok. Made our way to Cha-Am to take the van back to Bangkok.
You know when they said "Travel the world and get lost with me" ? We literally got lost. The van we took didn't take us back to Victory Monument. We might have been somewhere near Nakhorn or something. Bubs already had the suspicion earlier because the trip back took longer than when we came!
So he asked the driver(of which doesn't speak a single English and do not understand) thus within 20minutes he dropped us near a pitstop indicating us to take a taxi. okay lah, better than nothing. Rather than he just throw us by the expressway at least he got the courtesy to drop us near a taxi stop.
So we then took the taxi back to Siam. We didn't realised how far off we were when we had to pay toll, like oh my god! Journey took us about close to 20-25minutes or maybe more? Alighted at Central World and we heaved a sigh of relieve. Phew ~
Had dinner at this Hupla Chongnonsea (?)place which sells seafood and such. We both were blown away by the taste of the dishes! Sedap gila, no joke. Our diet obviously fail la yerh?
Supposed to call off the day but I have been delaying the massage session that Bubs wanted to do so much therefore giving in to him. I honestly do not fancy massages anymore ever since my wedding massage got my body close to paralysis(okay lah, exaggerate abit but really. It was too painful to even walk!)
So we walked to Pratunam area again. He got his last round of shopping and we finally found a decent massage parlour. Had an hour of Thai full body massage and 30 minutes of foot reflexology. I'd say it wasn't that fantastic but I was thankful the massage was still bearable. Once done, we tuktuk our way back home. Packed our bags and off to sleep.
12 January 2016
When I told I can avoid being woken up to do something in the early morning, I was wrong. Bubs wanted to use the facilities thus dragged me down to have a quick 45 mins gym session. Okay lah, gave in. Need to stop being lazy and putting back on the weight.
Went back up, showered and cab to the airport. Had my final Thai iced milk tea(made on the spot with foams! Omg, why does it have to taste this good? *cries*)
And we bought back 6 packets of mango sticky rice(for our SIL and BIL Yang kemponan. Haha!)
Busy siol.
And so, we took out flight back to Singapore! I wasn't looking forward to end this trip just yet and it sucks to know that you've gotta work the following day. Yikes.
So that's about all folks!
Gonna blog about "The Married Life" and "The Good Wife" soon.
Until then,
Kap Kun ka~
