Protein shakes vs. Meal Replacements: My honest review.

As promised on twitter, I'd be doing a review on meal replacements and protein shakes.

Disclaimer: Understand that I'm not an expert in this field but just stating a review based on my experience/perception that may or may not affect the society in the health and fitness industry world.

So where was I?
Ahh yes. People be asking..

"Why do you need meal replacements/protein shakes? Why do you feel that you need to lose weight? Why this..why that?"

I may be all crazy and frenzy about the dieting and the fitness world but truth to be told, this is my FIRST TIME trying out protein shakes and meal replacements. Ironic, no?

I'm always against the idea of protein shakes and meal replacements consumption from the start. Mainly because of some myths that may not be true for instance, "Protein shakes buff you up!" or "Protein shakes are for men who wants to have a bigger build!"

I have never discovered meal replacement until two years ago when I chanced upon marketing company who promotes weight loss by buying their "package" which includes their self-produced meal replacement shakes which "scientifically" proven to aid weight loss and a strict regime.

I was still in disbelief when there are positive reviews (in this case; weight loss). I cringed to the fact that people who bought their packages, spent thousands of dollars, just for a temporary quick-fix. I mean like c'mon, I'd rather throw that amount of money for a year's worth of gym membership. I'm being honest here though. Regime consisting of only drinking their meal replacement shakes three times a day with or without exercise? You'd definitely be losing weight, fast, no doubt but how long can you keep the weight off? It takes alot of determination, discipline and effort or else, the weight you've lost will definitely come back.

Back then, I thought to myself "Being in a meal replacement "diet" is a total chore. It's only a quick-fix. Besides, if the shakes doesn't keep me full for long, won't I start binge-ing right after?"

Those were basically the few reasons why I'm against the idea of protein shakes and MRPs, back then.

So why now that I decided to try it out? Well, I have been secretly trying out products with raving reviews(of which, probably all seemed like a fad, marketing scheme) of the health industry world for the past year but really, the only difference I saw in myself was when I went on a "crash" diet.

Products like Garcinnia Cambogia, Raspberry ketones, Green coffee Bean extract, appetite control, fat-melter, diuretics and many others. I have even tried several kinds of these things stated above not only from one company but a few. Oh, this makes me realized how much toxins I've exposed to myself :(
So being a "lab rat", I've finally decided to give protein shakes and MRPs a try!

Am I going to fast for you to catch up? Below is the difference between protein shakes and MRPs.

Whey proteins are generally responsible for build-up of lean muscles. People opt for protein shakes usually wants to build more muscle mass and definition together with an exercise regime.

Some people rely on meal replacement shakes for nutrition purposes like they know their consumption of protein is minimal, thus incorporating MRP shakes into their diets, for example strict vegetarians(well of course, the MRPs/drinks needs to state vegetarian-friendly on their product)!

This is my first protein shake I've ever tried. Biotrust low carb time release protein powder! If I'm not wrong, it can be used as meal replacement as well to aid weight loss if you undergo their "One-day Diet" which involves Intermittent Fasting.

Price wise, you can check this item out on their website  at http://www.biotrust.com/m/Shop.asp?p=LowCarb&ADID=&CID=&SID=

Generally reasonable for a tub of protein powder. I bought milk chocolate! Taste wise, I'd give a 9 out of 10. Delivery process, I couldn't remember but it's somewhere from 3-5 weeks? Shipping from US, I guess.

Tried the "One-Day diet" but I failed tremendously. 3 days of effort gone to waste, not forgetting a waste of money. I never touch this even up till now, weirdly.

So the small bottle beside the tub is actually IC5.

I supposed it would be an alternative to mimic biology and function of insulin and carb management. Popping these pills before any carb-refined food probably 15-30minutes before consumption.

So, my greatest buy for this year has got to be Protein World Slender Blend.

I didn't buy the whole weight loss edition mainly because I'm done with all the pills I've tried. I was more reeled in on their famous reviews of the slender powder.

And so, this gatal girl decides to try out their chocolate flavour! A week or so back, I got a knock at my door and the delivery man was carrying a bright yellow box which was for me. I was so happy and can't wait to try this out!

Finally got my hands on these! I have been watching on Protein World website for months now and super excited when they finally launched their shipping to Singapore!

Packaging comes with a simplistic tub of their slender blend, a Thank You card, Weightloss guidebook (of recipes and such), two yellow scoops and a temporary gold tattoo(of which I am going to use for NZ!). The slender blend powder does not come with the shaker bottle but I bought it separately. It's about £3-6? I don't recall though.

The weight loss guide book!

Delivery time takes about 3 weeks. Love the packaging! A tub of the slender blend is definitely pricey. Please refer to the website if you're interested. Taste wise, I actually prefer the Biotrust Low carb somehow. The slender blend chocolate flavour has a little artificial but very sweet chocolate taste to it and the after-taste that isn't distinct but it's still fine for me.

Directions: 4 scoops of powder to 400ml of water. Yes, water! Per serving is about 147kcal. To minimize the artificial taste, slightly add a little bit of skimmed/fresh milk.

I'm still consuming the slender blend though, so I'm not able to see effect of this product alone. I have been searching for a Singaporean review on this product but still couldn't find one but I'll update more once I'm close to finishing the tub.

As of now, I'm trying to incorporate this slender blend if I'm unable to get food into my stomach, usually for breakfast or dinner, limiting to one shake per day for now.

So, till then you'll hear from me regarding this product! Oh, did I mentioned that Protein World claimed that it's Halal? Well, I hope so.

xoxo.
